From merchandising five hours a week to now being responsible for 1250 Nutmeg Merchandisers, Clair Worthington’s journey to becoming Head of Nutmeg here at Dee Set is as inspirational as it is impressive!

We recently caught up with our new Head of Nutmeg, Clair Worthington, to hear about her impressive career journey and to learn more about what makes her tick!

Clair joined our team in 2003 (over 17 years ago!) working five hours per week as a Merchandiser looking after the Pick & Mix section in Asda. Clair had taken a career break to raise her children and picked up merchandising as the flexibility allowed her career to fit around her young family’s lifestyle.

Maintaining a good work-life balance has always been, and continues to be, a huge priority for Clair who says that you need to “go slower to go faster”. Clair believes that switching off and having downtime is really important to ensure that you’re giving your very best at work.

Whilst Dee Set rapidly expanded as we moved into multiple retailers, Clair went from strength to strength taking on more hours, more responsibility and securing several promotions within the team. Clair relished the extra duties she was given and became hungry even more.

In 2020 Clair was appointed as our new Head of Nutmeg, assuming responsibility for a huge 1250 Nutmeg Merchandisers, 20 Area Managers and two Regional Managers!!

“I have a real passion for working with people, delivering results and striving for excellence, which has most definitely defined my role. If you are passionate about what you do, work hard and are dedicated then there are opportunities to develop and I’m proof of that!”

Clair says that her parents have been a huge influence in her life:

“From a young age, Dad always got us involved in his work which gave me a really good work ethic, whereas Mum stayed at home and looked after the house. I truly believe a happy home life improves your work life and this balance of working and enjoying downtime is an example I try to lead with for my own children. I’ve always wanted to be a good role model for them”.

We asked Clair if she could give her 20-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

“I’m happy with the way everything has turned out for me. I know I’ve given 110% to everything I’ve done so there isn’t anything I’d like to change or any regrets I live with – I’m very happy within myself!”
